Brex

Case Study

Since 2017, Brex has been providing credit cards and cash management accounts to businesses of all sizes. Within three years the company has grown their workforce from 30 people to nearly 500, and from one location (San Francisco) to five markets across the United States. Having recently transitioned to a remote-first office approach, they are a true representation of today's hybrid workplace.

As Brex grew, they relied on Raise to find flexible spaces in key markets like Salt Lake City, Vancouver, and New York City that could both accommodate their expansion and also provide short term flexibility for their growing team. For their headquarters in San Francisco specifically, they needed an office to accommodate upwards of 350 people with an all-hands space, large cafeteria and flexible terms to scale as their hiring continued to accelerate.

Raise’s familiarity with Brex as an organization helped them make swift decisions, acting as an extension of Brex’s internal workplace team. Within 12 months, Raise helped Brex secure over 100k square feet of office space across 5 key markets. Raise deployed a combination of both internal and external resources on Brex’s behalf to ensure consistency across all transactions.

In the summer of 2020, Brex also enlisted the help of Raise’s Workplace services (Represented by Jen Nguyen, Bonnie Bibra, Julija Costantino) to safely reopen their Salt Lake City office.

Brex and Raise (Represented by John Diepenbrock, Michael Iino, Felipe Gomez) were early partners on Brex’s initial real estate strategy. This relationship provided Raise with an intimate understanding of Brex’s trajectory, and helped anticipate the imminent outgrowing of their first San Francisco office. When Brex expressed a desire to establish more of a distributed workforce, the two companies quickly hopped on a plane.

Raise partnered with best-in-class partners in markets across the country, traveling with Brex to ensure their expansion was handled with the same level of efficiency and diligence across all markets. In addition to using Raise for its Brokerage services, Brex enlisted Raise’s Project Management services (Represented by Kyla Brennan) to help them make more informed leasing and build-out decisions for their offices. When the time came to transition to a new headquarters building, Raise evaluated the physical condition of the newly proposed space, providing a full estimate on the expected buildout, as well as timelines associated with the different stages of construction.
